What to Give Someone Who Likes Good Food

Smoked fish is the gift people remember, because almost nobody buys it for themselves. Pick a ready-made set below — or tell us the occasion and we will build a basket for it

Why fish makes a good gift

Most gifts fall into two piles: things people already own, and things they will never use. Food avoids both — it gets finished, and it gets talked about while it is being finished

Smoked fish has one more advantage. It reads as expensive without being extravagant, and almost nobody thinks to buy it for themselves

We will build the basket for you

The sets below are what we keep ready. But if you want something put together for a particular person — or a particular budget — just ask

Tell us the occasion, roughly what you want to spend, and anything you know about their taste. We will choose the fish, arrange it properly and wrap it: ribbon, a hand-written card, the whole thing. You will get a photo before it ships, so there are no surprises

There is no extra charge for the wrapping. It takes us a day or two on top of the usual, so give us a little notice around the holidays

To start one, message us on Instagram or email orders@smokeitfish.com

Our pick

Good Evening Set

The set we send when the gift has to land. Enough variety that everyone finds something, generous enough that it clearly was not an afterthought

This is the one for a milestone — a housewarming, a thank-you, a boss who has everything

$299

Best for a first taste

A little bit of Everything

For someone who has never had proper smoked fish, this is the right introduction — a little of each kind, so they find their own favourite rather than being handed ours

$199

The showpiece

Golden Pearls (Keta Caviar)

When you want the gift to be an event in itself. Caviar still carries that weight, and keta pearls are large, firm and clean-tasting — the kind people photograph before they open

$130

Under $50

Northern Symphony

Not every gift needs to be a statement. This is the one for a colleague, a neighbour or a secret santa — small, well-made, and better than another candle

A few practical notes

  • It arrives cold. Everything ships vacuum sealed with frozen gel packs, so it turns up ready to refrigerate, not ready to worry about
  • Time it for a weekday. A box that sits on a doorstep all weekend is the one thing that spoils a food gift. We ship early in the week for the same reason
  • We never include a price. There is no invoice or receipt anywhere in the box

Common questions

Can you build a basket around a budget?

Yes — that is the usual way it works. Tell us the number and we will make it look like the number was bigger. Most custom baskets we put together land between $80 and $300.

How is it wrapped?

The fish is arranged in a basket or a box, wrapped, and finished with a ribbon and a card. Nothing is loose and nothing rattles. If you want a particular colour or a specific message on the card, tell us and we will do it.

How much notice do you need?

A day or two on top of normal shipping. Around Christmas and New Year, give us a week if you can — that is when everyone asks at once.

Can you ship it straight to the recipient?

Yes — just enter their address at checkout and leave a note so we know it is a gift. We will not include a price anywhere in the box.

How long will it keep before they open it?

Sealed and refrigerated, the smoked items keep up to three weeks and the dried ones one to three months. Tell them to refrigerate it on arrival and there is no rush.

What if they are not home when it arrives?

The packaging holds temperature for up to 48 hours, so a few hours on a porch is fine in mild weather. In summer, choose overnight shipping and pick a day they will be in.
