Sweet Mix: Honey, Nuts, and Dried Fruit in a Jar

An old recipe, made the way it was made at home — nuts and dried fruit stirred into raw honey and left to sit until everything softens into one thing. Thick enough to stand a spoon in, sweet without being cloying, and textured all the way through. A spoonful is a snack; the jar tends not to last the week.

Sweet Mix — honey with nuts and dried fruit

How We Make It

  1. Blending. Honey, nuts and dried fruit in fixed proportions — enough honey to bind, enough fruit that every spoonful has something in it.
  2. Curing. The jar rests before it ships. The fruit draws in honey and softens, the nuts lose their raw edge, and the flavours stop being separate.
  3. Packing. Sealed fresh in 8 fl oz jars, in small batches, in Los Angeles.

How to Eat It

  • By the spoon. Out of the jar, standing at the fridge. We are not going to pretend otherwise.
  • On dark chocolate. A square of 70% with a spoonful on top. The bitterness is what keeps the sweetness in check.
  • Stirred into yoghurt or porridge. Plain yoghurt, a spoonful through it. Breakfast in ten seconds.
  • On toast with butter. Salted butter first, then the mix. The salt does the same job the chocolate does.
  • With cheese. Sharp or blue cheese on a board — honey and nuts belong there, and this is that pairing already assembled.

Keeping It

Store the jar sealed at room temperature, out of direct sun. No refrigeration needed — honey keeps itself, which is why this recipe existed long before anyone had a fridge. Use a clean, dry spoon each time; water is the one thing that shortens its life. If the honey crystallises or stiffens in a cold kitchen, stand the jar in warm water for a few minutes and stir.

Common Questions

How sweet is it? Sweet, but not sugary — the nuts and fruit cut it, and there is no added sugar beyond the honey itself.

Is the honey raw? Yes, and unheated, which is why the jar can crystallise. That is a sign of real honey rather than a fault.

Does it contain nuts? Yes. Check the ingredients tab for the exact mix before serving to anyone with a nut allergy.

Can babies eat it? No. Honey should not be given to children under one year old. For everyone older, it is fine.

Does it make a good gift? It is one of the easiest things we sell to give — it needs no refrigeration, travels well, and works for people who do not eat fish. See our gift page.
